OTHER WORLDWIDE
TRAVEL-INFO: Heliski season goes a little longer than the official skiing season, normally from end of November until middle of May. Something really special: corn-snow-skiing in April/May. Heliskiing is prohibited in Germany and Austria (except Lech am Arlberg). Heliskiing is suitable for experts as well as for middle skilled skiers. Most important is good shape and good health. Altitude, dry air and the time-difference (overseas areas) can press hard on your body. An exclusive pleasure like Heliskiing is worth its price: single flights in the Alps can be booked starting at 160 Euro, USA starting at 200 US$. Quite affordable are weekly packages from tour operators - they also offer equipment like the "fat boys" for rent. The biggest danger in high alpine areas are avalanches. Other dangers: crevasses and tree holes. On any tour follow the safety instructions of your guides / tour operators, listen to avalanche warnings and take a beeper with you. |
